Cylinder Grinding

Shane Cox of Ready Set Mow Ltd developed and manufactures the Brilliant Mower that is  featured on this website.
As a seasoned mower engineer, Shane says that it's important to keep the cutting cylinder of your mower in proper working condition to ensure optimal performance. In cases where the blades are significantly worn or damaged, regrinding the cylinder is necessary to restore its functionality. However, grinding does remove material and if you can avoid it, the cylinder will last longer. Back lapping is preferable and will normally be the most satisfactory solution.
In the video shared by Shane, we can observe his precision grinding machine in action. One of the key aspects to note is that by listening to the grinder in operation, we can deduce that certain areas of the cylinder were more worn than others, resulting in an uneven cut across the width.
