The Brilliant 170 24" Fine Cut Mower

This is the exciting Brilliant 170+ - 24" mower.  This was developed as a result of discussions between me and Shane Cox of Ready Set Mow Ltd.  All the working parts of the mower are new, but there is a big cost saving by using a reclaimed Atco Royale chassis which is sand blasted and painted. Thousands of these were made from 1964 to 2011. It was one of their most popular mowers and still exists today as the Allett Buckingham since Allett bought the manufacturing rights. Using a reclaimed frame reduces the cost and the carbon footprint.
  • Stainless steel, height adjustable front roller.
  • Shaver blade. Min cut height 3mm
  • 14 blade cylinder 170+ cuts per metre
  • 6.5 hp Lifan engine
  • Electric start
  • Clutch operated on handle bar
  • Aluminium clipping box
The cutting width is 24" which is ideal for croquet because it is easy to steer in pedestrian mode and when using a trailing seat. It has a 6.5 hp engine, a 14 blade cylinder and "shaver" blade for mowing down to 3mm. The quality of the cut is superb with 170+ cuts per metre for a super smooth, fast surface. The cylinder has 14 blades, more than most equivalent mowers, this means that the blades do less work and therefore last longer The clipping box is of large capacity and tailor made in aluminium for the mower. A further advantage is that a trailing seat can be attached which improves the rolling effect and is often the choice for croquet clubs because it makes mowing much easier.
The mower has a 12 month warranty and annual servicing can be provided by the Shane Cox of Ready Set Mow Ltd. Spare parts are widely available and special parts such as gears are available from RSM Ltd.
The Brilliant mower is available in my online shop.
Review (2021)
This season I have used a Brilliant mower here at the Great Dunham Croquet Club and am delighted with  everything about the machine. Speed is adjusted with a control on the handlebar - I like to set it and leave it. This means I get a constant speed without having to fiddle with anything. The  clutch is a simple hand lever, after engaging  you can take your hand away  - there is no need to maintain a constant grip as you do on some machines.  The cylinder  is engaged  using an on/off lever on the side of the machine. Again, no need to faff around with controls on the handle bar.  The Brilliant mower is a delight to use, rugged  in design and it tows the autosteer seat very easily . The finish is amazing and equal to any £7,000 fine turf mower I have come across.
I like the electric start feature, no pull starting which suits me and the engine runs beautifully. The battery recharges when the mower is running so there is no external charging necessary. I particularly like the clutch which can be engaged easily and smoothly.
Playing on the lawn cut with this mower is noticeably different to my previous mower which mowed at 70 cuts per metre. The lawn is faster and therefore much easier to hit balls the length of the lawn. In fact I have been told that the lawn is "exceptional". It is very flat but the fine cut of the mower makes a huge difference
