Granular Fertiliser Programmes

GRANULAR SUMMER PROGRAMMES

The Granular Summer Programme
Organic Formula
12 5 14 3MgO Mainstay Organic

This is an organic based slow release fertiliser that is applied three times during the summer season, in April, July and August and releases nutrients over an eight-week period.
The number of bags per Summer programme are:
Half Lawn 3 x 15kg bags
Full Lawn 6 x 15kg bags
Bowling Green 9 x 15kg bags

How it works
This organic based fertiliser incorporates a source of nitrogen, potassium, trace elements and significant levels of amino acids. It provides not only the nutrition for growth and root development, but also an organic bio-stimulant effect to encourage germination, establishment and resistance to environmental stress.
It contains a natural cocktail of bio-stimulant substances that boost the plant’s ability to cope with stressful conditions including drought, heat and salinity. The bio-stimulant effect encourages the plant growth and stimulates the natural stress response, keeping the sward greener and healthier for longer.
The carbohydrates and organics in the fertiliser also stimulate beneficial micro-organisms in the soil. This usually stops thatch build-up thus eliminating the need to scarify. This product doesn't usually reduce existing thatch levels, fit just stops further build-up. To reduce existing thatch you need to use my Thatch-Busting Formula.
MgO
3% of Magnesium Oxide is included in the fertiliser to promote photosynthesis and plant health.
Slow Release
The slow release is accomplished by incorporating longer, more complex molecules which take bacteria longer to break down. This method does not use a polymer coating so doesn't pollute the soil, environment and bird life with microplastics.

When to apply?
With granular fertilisers, it is always best to apply before rain is expected or irrigate if you can. I usually apply in the evening so that it can settle into the sward overnight.
Mowing
You can mow before application. After application it is best to mow with the box off until the fertiliser has dispersed so that you don't mow it off the surface with the clippings.
Safe to use
- The fertiliser is not toxic to humans, pets or wildlife and the croquet lawn can be used immediately after application.

Nutrient input
The programme inputs the following amounts of nutrition

N - 108 kg/hectare
P – 19.8 kg/hectare
K – 104.6/hectare

The inputs of P and K are equal to plant demand. Building up phosphates in the soil can lead to an oversupply, which can result in a number of negative environmental effects. One of the main concerns is that excess phosphates can lead to the growth of harmful algae blooms in nearby water bodies. This can lead to a decrease in the oxygen levels in the water, which can harm fish and other aquatic life. Additionally, the overabundance of phosphates can also lead to an increase in weed growth and a decrease in the overall health of the soil. It is important to use phosphates in the soil in moderation to maintain a healthy balance.

GRANULAR SUMMER PROGRAMMES
Thatch - Busting Formula

The Granular Summer Programme

BIOGRAN Fertiliser
12-6-10 3MgO 50% slow

- The biological substrate reduces thatch, eliminates the need to scarify and helps to produce superb croquet lawns with little effort.
- This is an organic based slow release fertiliser that is applied three times during the summer season, in April, July and August and releases nutrients over an eight-week period.
The number of bags per Summer programme are:
Half Lawn 3 x 15kg bags
Full Lawn 6 x 15kg bags
Bowling Green 9 x 15kg bags

BIOGRAN contains:
- A broad spectrum of bacteria and mycorrhizal fungi which encourage the breakdown of thatch into usable nutrients within the root zone.

- Seaweed which contains growth hormones and micronutrients that can enhance root development, leading to stronger and more resilient grass.

- Magnesium oxide to promote photosynthesis and plant health.
- The fertiliser is converted into usable nutrition by bacterial action. When favourable growing conditions exist (warm and moist), the bacteria are more active thus providing increased nutrients in sympathy with plant demand.

- The slow release is accomplished by incorporating longer, more complex molecules which take bacteria longer to break down.
This method does not use a polymer coating so does not add microplastics to the soil.

- Results across many croquet clubs show that Biogran fertilisers reduce thatch by about 30% per annum until an ideal level of 5 to 8mm is reached. At this point, the breakdown of thatch equals the production of thatch and therefore stays in balance.

- This system is in line with the Sports Turf Research Institute article "Do Not Disturb" and eliminates the need to remove thatch mechanically by scarification which is damaging to fine grasses.

P – 23.8 kg/hectare
K – 74.7 kg/hectare

The inputs of P and K are equal to plant demand. Building up phosphates in the soil can lead to an oversupply, which can result in a number of negative environmental effects. One of the main concerns is that excess phosphates can lead to the growth of harmful algae blooms in nearby water bodies. GRANULAR WINTER PROGRAMMES

The Granular Winter Programme

Winter Fertiliser with Iron 3 5 10 + 8%FE

The number of bags per Winter programme are:
Half Lawn 2 x 15kg bags
Full Lawn 4 x 15kg bags
Bowling Green 6 x 15kg bags

- If your lawns are used during the winter, it is a good idea to fertilise with a low input of Nitrogen in November and February.

- Using too much nitrogen damages the grass. The reason is that the plant cells are like balloons. Nitrogen causes the cell to expand but the cell wall requires photosynthesis to thicken. When daylight is in short supply, too much nitrogen will cause the cells to burst thus damaging the plant and inviting disease and fungal attack.

- The granular winter feed has low nitrogen but 8% iron which hardens the grass and helps to control moss.
